Besides using aftershave as the status quo after each shave, what is the purpose of using aftershave?

The main purpose of aftershave is to moisturize and and protect.

Antiseptic

Aftershaves contain some sort of component to clean, heal and protect nicks or cuts. These components often dry out the skin.

Moisturizer

Aftershaves also contain ingredients that counteract aforementioned, by providing oils and moisture to the scalp.

Scents

Lastly, most like to use aftershaves as it provides them a fragrance they often use as a cologne.
